Self

Self A Poem By Rumi

Self

The nightingale says to the rose bud,
“Tell me, who is in your heart?
No one is around, we are alone.”

“We are not alone here,” the rose answers,
“As long as you are with yourself.
Don’t expect anything from me,
Get rid of yourself first.”

Know this well:
The eye of the needle of absence is very small,
It doesn’t allow folded thread to go through.

~ Maulana Jalaluddin Mohammad Balkhi Rumi
