If a Garden Has No Pomegranates – Magtymguly Pyragy

If a Garden Has No Pomegranates
What does a gardener need a garden for,
If there are no pomegranates on its trees?
Let a son not be born to a father,
If he has no self-respect and dignity.
A jungle won’t be a garden for a nightingale,
A hill won’t be a mountain for a mountain goat,
A racehorse won’t be better than any other horse,
If it does not have good manners.
If one drinks sherbet, it will taste like honey,
His every day will turn into a year,
Her flower-like skin will turn pale as the color of ashes,
If a beauty does not have a beloved.
Magtymguly, they will say secretly,
Those who love should be called beloved,
If a young man does not have sweet words,
He is called an animal.
