Abdullah – Magtymguly Pyragy

Abdullah
Nine years passed since the day you left,
Where is your homeland then, my brother Abdullah?
He who once left would return, wouldn’t he?
Where is your homeland then, my brother Abdullah?
I waited for news from you, kneeling in front of the mountains;
But only silence comes in return, no word of you,
Stranded alone, apart from your parents, how do you get by?
Where is your homeland then, my brother Abdullah?
Fear cannot help if one’s soul is destined to leave,
Life came to an end, time is up.
Or were you swallowed by the ocean’s depths?
Where is your homeland then, my brother Abdullah?
We have been covered with the curtain of separation.
My strength left me bending my knees.
Crying his heart out, my father lost his stature.
Where is your homeland then, my brother Abdullah?
I pleaded for news before all living creatures,
But I had to surrender to inevitable separation,
No more can I tolerate such an endless sobbing,
Where is your homeland then, my brother Abdullah?
There is no relief for me amongst my people,
My sufferings added to the pains I had,
Abandoning your motherland and your beloved,
Where is your homeland then, my brother Abdullah?
I am keen on listening to every uttered word,
This separation is torturing us all,
I am brave enough to throw myself into the fire.
Where is your homeland then, my brother Abdullah?
No time was spent in joy and fun together,
You left early, abandoning us all.
Magtymguly is torn by tears over this bitter loss.
Where did you make your home, brother Abdullah?
